Radiocarbon, aka Carbon-14, is the isotope in radioactive decay mode — very unstable and guaranteed to stick around and make a mess of things. While much of it on Earth comes from military-conducted nuclear tests, Carbon-14 occurs naturally in the atmosphere when cosmic rays smash into nitrogen molecules.
Without Carbon-14, it would be much more difficult to date fossils, place archaeological finds, and to detect fake Mona Lisas and Modiglianis. If you have a historical bent to your aesthetic, harbour an affinity for theropods, and love classic masterpieces — then Carbon-14 is the design for you.
